Cats 160
Cats need cover for fleas and intestinal worms, and in some areas paralysis ticks and heartworm. Only use a product registered for cats: some dog flea products contain permethrin, which can kill a cat.
Cat treatments are sold by weight, like dog treatments. Weigh your cat and buy the band that fits. Kittens have their own bands and minimum ages, which are on the label.
Never use a dog product on a cat, even a small one. Spot-ons and rinses with permethrin are made for dogs and are toxic to cats. Keep a treated dog away from your cat until the product has dried.
Paralysis ticks affect cats on the east coast as well as dogs. A cat that is wobbly, has a changed meow, or is breathing differently needs a vet straight away.
Indoor cats still pick up fleas brought in by people and other pets, and many cats get tapeworm from swallowing fleas while grooming. A routine that covers fleas and worms suits most cats.
